The New Theory Test

In November 2010 the DSA announced changes to the current Theory Test for Car and Motorbikes. They will as of January 2012 be removing the publication of the question bank for candidates to use in practicing for the test. The reason given for this change is to make candidates learn the actual topic instead of learning the questions by ‘rote’ (memorizing).

The current question will be changed but the content for each question will remain the same so that candidates who use the old books will not recognize the question they will see in the new theory test and if they are just learning the questions instead of the content they will more likely fail the test. In response to this candidates will have to find more resources in order to learn the subject more fully than before and just simply revising questions may not be enough as the subject matter covers more than the current questions.

There are several books and resources devoted to information on the theory test and with the Instructors help each candidate should be able to find these to help them. The Hazard Perception part of the test will for the moment remain unchanged but there are changes to this happening in the next 12 months with updated clips and scoring system. For now the system remain the same with candidates needing to score 44 out of a possible 75 from the 14 clips shown.

In order to find out more information about the theory test you should contact your local instructor or search the internet for more information
